THE PROJECT

Zest Hair & Beauty is a beauty salon concept combining hair and beauty services with a distinctive, personality-driven visual identity. The brief was to create a logo that felt feminine and stylish while avoiding the overly generic aesthetic often associated with beauty brands.

THE CONCEPT

The identity is centred around a custom illustrated female portrait, giving the brand an immediately recognisable visual signature. Rather than relying on conventional beauty imagery, I used a simplified, graphic illustration to create a character that feels confident, expressive and contemporary.

The exaggerated hair silhouette acts as the primary framing device for the portrait, reinforcing the connection to the salon while creating a strong overall shape that remains recognisable at smaller sizes.

IDENTITY

The logo was designed as a cohesive combination of illustration and typography, with each element contributing to the personality of the brand. The portrait provides the distinctive visual hook, while the strong wordmark ensures the business name remains immediately legible.

The simplified illustration also gives the identity potential to extend beyond the primary logo into signage, social media, business cards, packaging and other salon touchpoints.

OUTCOME

The final identity combines a bold illustrated character with a restrained colour palette and strong typography to create a memorable and contemporary beauty brand.

The project explored how custom illustration can give a service-based business a more distinctive personality, while still maintaining the clarity and flexibility required of a professional identity system.
